    Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine problem gamblers' experiences of overcoming their suicidal ideation resulting from gambling. A group of 12 research subjects were selected for the research and the data was collected from one-to-one in-depth interviews. The collected data was analyzed by utilizing the phenomenological method. A set of four themes were extracted to explain their behavior: suicidal ideation from experiencing bottom of life, conflict between life and death, support system, and introspection. And these four themes were incorporated into one intrinsic theme named ‘overcoming suicidal ideation formed from experiencing bottom of life though support system and introspection’. It is suggested that researches on problem gamblers’ suicidal ideation should focus more on gambling itself, utilize those who stopped gambling as role models, and help them recognize other valuable things than gambling.
